Organisation
Your first step to keeping your event safe is to create a risk assessment that lists all the potential threats and how you will manage them. This is a great opportunity to share your concerns with your event team and ask them to help you identify potential threats.
It’s a good idea to include all of your suppliers on this risk assessment so that you can better collaborate with them to mitigate risks and improve the safety of your event. Your caterers, marquee providers and AV companies all have a role to play in your event’s safety – ask for their method statements and risk assessments so that you can be sure they are taking these into account when planning and executing your event.
Security
When hosting an event, you can’t ignore the fact that safety is a priority. Whether you are planning an intimate birthday party or a big political rally, you need to put a security plan in place for your event. It’s the most important thing you can do to ensure the safety of your guests and staff.
You can’t eliminate all threats, but you can minimize their chances and counter the trouble agitators might cause. You also need to do a little research on what kind of risk factors you’re facing for your particular event. For example, a political campaign speech has much higher risks than a family get-together.
